Spanish Peaks Piping Retreat, class of 2015! Come join us for 2016!

The Spanish Peaks Piping Retreat is set for Sep 23-25, 2016 in lovely La Veta, CO.  Sponsored by the Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival, this year’s piping retreat will feature two outstanding piping teachers and performers.  Jerry O’Sullivan and Ben Miller will both be teaching bellows-blown smallpipes.  They’ll alternate between intermediate and advanced students for the two and one-half day piping retreat.  Jerry and Ben will focus on technique, tips and tunes.

Jerry O’Sullivan is world-famous for his uilleann piping, but he’s no less talented on highland and small pipes!  Jerry is sure to share some of his secret Irish tunes at the retreat.  Ben Miller, one of our outstanding American pipers with a strong following in Scotland and Cape Breton will no doubt be sharing some great information and tunes.  This combination of instructors brings a unique blend of both Scottish and Irish music.  You can count on learning something unique at the Spanish Peaks Piping Retreat.

A special part of the retreat is a chance to play with participants of the Spanish Peaks Celtic Harp Retreat!  Harpers and smallpipers will have a chance to play tunes together on the Saturday afternoon of the retreat.  This opportunity to play with other musicians, playing other instruments, was very well-received last year.  So, we’ll repeat it this year as well!

Schedule and registration information can be found at www.sppipers.com.  You can also find us on Facebook!  Tuition for the Spanish Peaks Piping Retreat is $250 for two and a half days of instruction!

The Spanish Peaks Piping Retreat is held concurrently with the Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival which this year features Altan, Outside Track and The High Kings!  Piping retreat students will have a chance to learn from two masters during the day, then hear some of the best in traditional and contemporary Celtic music at evening concerts.  Late night sessions round out the day and insure that the music almost never stops!!  Jerry and Ben will perform at the final Festival concert on Sunday Sep 25.  For piping fans, this will be a real treat!!

Come join us in southern Colorado in September.  Set in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains, the weather promises to be great with warm days and cool nights.  Aspen leaves will be just about at their peak as they turn colors.
